Can Falling Be Prevented?

Research has indicated that as people naturally age, the risk of falling may increase. It may be a result of chronic health conditions, poor vision, and a loss of strength as the aging process occurs. There are methods that can be implemented which may help to reduce the chances of falling. These can consist of removing worn rugs, improving lighting in the living environment, and having routine physical examinations. This can be helpful in updating current medications which could be beneficial in eliminating existing dizziness. Additionally, many patients choose to have grab bars installed in the shower and bathroom areas, as this may provide additional support.   • Talking to family members about falling and increasing awareness

Falling can be a traumatic and embarrassing experience for elderly persons; this can make them less willing to leave the house, and less willing to talk to someone about their fears of falling. Doing such things, however, will increase the likelihood of tripping or losing one’s balance.
